{"id":2060,"date":"2025-02-16T16:53:51","date_gmt":"2025-02-16T16:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2060"},"modified":"2025-02-16T16:53:51","modified_gmt":"2025-02-16T16:53:51","slug":"during-a-scientific-symposium-genetic-engineering-discusses-challenges-of-cell-based-foods-and-predictions-for-future-foods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2060","title":{"rendered":"During a scientific symposium, Genetic Engineering discusses challenges of cell-based foods and predictions for future foods"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"128\" data-end=\"560\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a scientific symposium titled <strong data-start=\"272\" data-end=\"342\">&#8220;Challenges of Cell-Based Foods and Predictions for Future Foods.&#8221;<\/strong> The symposium was presented by <strong data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"414\">Professor Dr. Mona Turki Al-Moussawi<\/strong> and chaired by <strong data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"457\">Biologist Nagham Hameed<\/strong> from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, Department of Specifications.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"562\" data-end=\"818\">The event was attended by the <strong data-start=\"592\" data-end=\"653\">Dean of the Institute, Professor Dr. Salwa Jabir Al-Awadi<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"757\">Assistant Dean for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Wathiq Abbas Al-Daraji<\/strong>, as well as faculty members and students of the institute.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"1089\">The symposium aimed to explore one of the most promising and rapidly developing technologies in food production\u2014<strong data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"985\">cell-based food<\/strong>\u2014examining its production stages, the challenges it faces, and future predictions for its development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1091\" data-end=\"1321\">The symposium highlighted that <strong data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1231\">the World Economic Forum has classified cell-based food as one of the top 10 emerging global technologies<\/strong>, recognizing it as a viable solution to the challenges of animal-based food production.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1323\" data-end=\"1703\">With the rapid advancement of the economy and society, factors such as <strong data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1458\">population growth, climate change, and resource availability<\/strong> pose significant challenges to sustainable food supply and nutritional health in the future. Future foods represent an evolution of both traditional and modern food systems, reflecting changes in <strong data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1700\">production methods and lifestyle patterns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1726\" data-end=\"1845\">The symposium emphasized that several challenges still hinder the widespread adoption of cell-based foods, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"2111\">\n<li data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"1888\"><strong data-start=\"1848\" data-end=\"1872\">Technical challenges<\/strong> in production<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1889\" data-end=\"1918\"><strong data-start=\"1891\" data-end=\"1916\">High production costs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"1946\"><strong data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"1944\">Consumer acceptance<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1947\" data-end=\"1991\"><strong data-start=\"1949\" data-end=\"1989\">Religious and ethical considerations<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2042\"><strong data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2040\">Quality assurance and economic feasibility<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2111\"><strong data-start=\"2045\" data-end=\"2109\">Regulatory support and compliance with food safety standards<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2113\" data-end=\"2221\">Obtaining the necessary approvals and ensuring food safety compliance are critical steps for market entry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2273\">The symposium recommended:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"3016\" data-is-last-node=\"\">\n<li data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2530\"><strong data-start=\"2277\" data-end=\"2320\">Organizing more symposiums and lectures<\/strong> in universities and relevant institutions to raise awareness about future foods, including <strong data-start=\"2412\" data-end=\"2432\">cell-based foods<\/strong>, and to discuss both the <strong data-start=\"2458\" data-end=\"2491\">positive and negative aspects<\/strong> of their production and consumption.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2756\"><strong data-start=\"2534\" data-end=\"2586\">Involving regulatory and legislative authorities<\/strong> in assessing the standards, safety, and suitability of these foods for human consumption, especially in the case of importing and introducing them to the Iraqi market.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2757\" data-end=\"3016\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong data-start=\"2760\" data-end=\"2812\">Preparing reference and educational laboratories<\/strong> with trained researchers and technicians to <strong data-start=\"2857\" data-end=\"2892\">evaluate the quality and safety<\/strong> of these foods.
