The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies<\/strong> at the University of Baghdad<\/strong> held a master’s thesis defense for Zainab Talib Fahl<\/strong>, titled:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Impact of MEG3 Long Non-Coding RNA Genetic Variation and Expression and Its Relationship with Serum Levels of Certain Inflammatory Cytokines in the Risk of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in a Sample of Pediatric Patients.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The study was supervised by Prof. Dr. Bushra Jasim Mohammed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The research aimed to investigate the genetic polymorphisms and gene expression<\/strong> of MEG3<\/strong>, a maternally expressed long non-coding RNA, and its relationship with serum levels of inflammatory cytokines in Iraqi children<\/strong> diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The hematological analysis revealed that: 94%<\/strong> of the patients suffered from anemia<\/strong>, making it the most prevalent hematological manifestation of the disease and 82%<\/strong> of the patients had thrombocytopenia<\/strong>, with a statistically significant difference (P\u22640.01).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The study suggested that MEG3 genetic polymorphisms, gene expression levels, and serum concentrations of TNF-\u03b1 and IL-1\u03b2<\/strong> could serve as potential new immunological and genetic biomarkers<\/strong> for diagnosing pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).<\/strong><\/p>\n
