{"id":2119,"date":"2025-02-28T16:56:27","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T16:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2119"},"modified":"2025-02-28T16:56:27","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T16:56:27","slug":"a-faculty-member-in-genetic-engineering-participates-in-the-defense-of-a-phd-thesis-at-the-college-of-science-university-of-baghdad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2119","title":{"rendered":"A faculty member in Genetic Engineering participates in the defense of a PhD thesis at the College of Science &#8211; University of Baghdad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"135\" data-end=\"621\">Assistant Professor Dr. &#8220;Abdul Mohsen Muslim Shami,&#8221; a faculty member at the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, participated in the defense of the PhD thesis titled &#8220;Production and Characterization of Biologically Active Melanin Pigment from <em data-start=\"444\" data-end=\"469\">Streptomyces atrovirens<\/em> and Its Applications as an Environmentally Friendly Natural Dye&#8221; by the student &#8220;Saleh Qadir&#8221; from the College of Science at the University of Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"623\" data-end=\"991\">The research aimed at a new application of biologically active bacterial melanin pigments to create antimicrobial colored fabrics. This is despite the long-term widespread use of synthetic dyes, which raised concerns about their potential to cause cancer and other toxic effects, prompting researchers to explore natural sources, particularly microbial dye production.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"993\" data-end=\"1437\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The thesis recommended that microbial dyes could be a viable alternative, significantly contributing to the current literature by highlighting the potential of this natural resource. The study showed that natural multi-fiber fabrics have a higher affinity for melanin pigment compared to synthetic multi-fiber fabrics, further supporting the idea that natural fabrics have a greater attraction to natural dyes than their synthetic counterparts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assistant Professor Dr. &#8220;Abdul Mohsen Muslim Shami,&#8221;
