{"id":2126,"date":"2025-03-05T06:49:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T06:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2126"},"modified":"2025-03-05T06:49:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T06:49:33","slug":"genetic-engineering-discusses-retn-gene-polymorphism-in-breast-cancer-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2126","title":{"rendered":"Genetic Engineering Discusses RETN Gene Polymorphism in Breast Cancer Patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"84\" data-end=\"454\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the doctoral dissertation of the student <em data-start=\"244\" data-end=\"262\">Hanan Jawad Naif<\/em>, titled:<br data-start=\"271\" data-end=\"274\" \/><strong data-start=\"274\" data-end=\"380\">&#8220;The Role of miRNA-373 and miRNA-425 and the Polymorphism of the RETN Gene in Breast Cancer Patients,&#8221;<\/strong> under the supervision of <em data-start=\"406\" data-end=\"451\">Assistant Professor Dr. Ismail Hussein Aziz<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"456\" data-end=\"878\">The study aimed to evaluate the gene expression levels of <strong data-start=\"514\" data-end=\"530\">microRNA-373<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"535\" data-end=\"551\">microRNA-425<\/strong> in Iraqi women with breast cancer and investigate the relationship between breast cancer and the genetic polymorphism of the <strong data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"685\">RETN<\/strong> gene in Iraqi patients. Additionally, the study measured the concentration of <strong data-start=\"764\" data-end=\"783\">Resistin (RETN)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"788\" data-end=\"822\">Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA)<\/strong> using <strong data-start=\"829\" data-end=\"838\" data-is-only-node=\"\">ELISA<\/strong> technology in breast cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"1082\">The study showed that the serum levels of <strong data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"981\">CEA, RETN, miRNA-373, and miRNA-425<\/strong> were significantly higher in breast cancer patients compared to the control group (<strong data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1078\">p &lt; 0.001<\/strong>). <strong data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1109\">CEA threshold value<\/strong>: &gt;35.71 pg\/mL with an accuracy of <strong data-start=\"1144\" data-end=\"1153\">76.2%<\/strong>, sensitivity of <strong data-start=\"1170\" data-end=\"1179\">69.7%<\/strong>, and specificity of <strong data-start=\"1200\" data-end=\"1209\">79.2%<\/strong><span data-start=\"1200\" data-end=\"1209\"> and <\/span><strong data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1239\">RETN threshold value<\/strong>: &gt;0.41 ng\/mL with an accuracy of <strong data-start=\"1273\" data-end=\"1282\">74.2%<\/strong>, sensitivity of <strong data-start=\"1299\" data-end=\"1308\">89.9%<\/strong>, and specificity of <strong data-start=\"1329\" data-end=\"1338\">51.5%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1362\" data-end=\"1708\">The study concluded that <strong data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1398\">miR-373<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1403\" data-end=\"1414\">miR-425<\/strong> could serve as <strong data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1454\">potential biomarkers<\/strong> for the <strong data-start=\"1463\" data-end=\"1482\">early diagnosis<\/strong> of breast cancer, with <strong data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1549\">predictive and therapeutic implications<\/strong>. Serum levels of <strong data-start=\"1567\" data-end=\"1583\" data-is-only-node=\"\">CEA and RETN<\/strong> could also aid in breast cancer diagnosis, and using a combination of these markers could <strong data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1705\">enhance diagnostic accuracy. <\/strong>The <strong data-start=\"1716\" data-end=\"1754\">RETN (rs10401670 T\/C) polymorphism<\/strong> was found to have a <strong data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"1797\">significant impact<\/strong> on breast cancer risk. and other SNPs, such as <strong data-start=\"1845\" data-end=\"1899\">rs3745369 G\/C, rs368504053 T\/C, and rs74489689 A\/G<\/strong>, showed <strong data-start=\"1908\" data-end=\"1938\">no significant correlation<\/strong> with breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1985\" data-end=\"2212\">The study recommended using <strong data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2048\">CEA, RETN, miR-373, and miR-425<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"2052\" data-end=\"2085\">early breast cancer diagnosis<\/strong> to improve <strong data-start=\"2097\" data-end=\"2132\">fine-needle aspiration guidance<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2166\">radiological examinations<\/strong>, reducing the need for <strong data-start=\"2190\" data-end=\"2209\">surgical biopsy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2804\" data-is-only-node=\"\" data-is-last-node=\"\">\n<li data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2327\">The <strong data-start=\"2220\" data-end=\"2249\">RETN (rs10401670 T\/C) SNP<\/strong> could contribute to <strong data-start=\"2270\" data-end=\"2298\">molecular classification<\/strong> of breast cancer subtypes.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2328\" data-end=\"2540\">The predictive role of <strong data-start=\"2353\" data-end=\"2388\">CEA, RETN, miR-373, and miR-425<\/strong> should be explored further to <strong data-start=\"2419\" data-end=\"2448\">assess treatment response<\/strong>, potentially serving as an alternative to <strong data-start=\"2491\" data-end=\"2537\">positron emission tomography (PET) imaging<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2541\" data-end=\"2804\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Measuring <strong data-start=\"2553\" data-end=\"2584\">CEA, RETN, miR-373, miR-425<\/strong> levels and identifying the <strong data-start=\"2612\" data-end=\"2650\">RETN (rs10401670 T\/C) polymorphism<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"2654\" data-end=\"2685\">national screening programs<\/strong> could help <strong data-start=\"2697\" data-end=\"2751\">identify women at risk of developing breast cancer<\/strong>, facilitating <strong data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2803\">early monitoring and intervention<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2130&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2131&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the doctoral dissertation &#8230; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":37,"featured_media":2129,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[14,17,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2126","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-archives","category-last-news","category-a-a"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.8 -
