The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad<\/strong> discussed the Master’s thesis of student Amina Jalil Aziz<\/strong>, titled:
“The Relationship Between Gene Expression, miRNA-499 Genotypes, and Interleukin-17 Levels in the Serum of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients in Baghdad Governorate,”<\/strong> under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Sanaa Jasim Kadhem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Objectives of the Study:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The study aimed to:
\ud83d\udd39 Evaluate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)<\/strong> in miRNA-499 (rs374644)<\/strong>.
\ud83d\udd39 Assess gene expression levels of miRNA-499<\/strong>.
\ud83d\udd39 Measure IL-17 and ACCP levels in serum<\/strong>.
\ud83d\udd39 Evaluate additional parameters such as Rheumatoid Factor (RF), C-Reactive Protein (CRP), and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Key Findings:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can affect individuals of any age<\/strong>, regardless of smoking habits or family history.
\ud83d\udd39 IL-17 plays a crucial role in RA<\/strong>, with significantly higher levels found in RA patients compared to healthy individuals<\/strong>. It also shows a strong correlation with genotype variations and fold-change in expression, making it a potential diagnostic marker<\/strong>.
\ud83d\udd39 Anti-CCP, RF, ESR, and CRP<\/strong> levels were significantly higher in RA patients compared to the control group, serving as useful indicators of the disease<\/strong>.
\ud83d\udd39 Overexpression of miRNA-499 may play a key role in RA development<\/strong> and has a positive correlation with IL-17 levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Recommendations:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  • Further studies on miRNA-499 gene sequencing<\/strong> to better understand its role in RA progression<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • Investigating the relationship between IL-17 and miRNA<\/strong> before and after treatment.<\/li>\n
  • Studying DNA methylation and conducting data analysis<\/strong> to enhance knowledge about RA development, gene expression analysis, and HLA gene genotyping<\/strong> linked to RA.<\/li>\n
  • Performing a comparative analysis of vitamin and mineral levels in RA patients and healthy controls<\/strong> to determine potential risk factors for developing rheumatoid arthritis<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
