{"id":2293,"date":"2025-05-01T11:13:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-01T11:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2293"},"modified":"2025-05-01T11:13:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T11:13:00","slug":"top-of-the-baghdad-hall-genetic-engineering-discusses-a-masters-thesis-on-the-molecular-evaluation-of-efflux-pump-gene-expression-mexab-mexr-in-pseudomonas-aeruginosa-is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2293","title":{"rendered":"Top of the \u201cBaghdad Hall\u201d\u2026 Genetic Engineering Discusses a Master&#8217;s Thesis on the Molecular Evaluation of Efflux Pump Gene Expression (MexAB-MexR) in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"643\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master&#8217;s thesis of student <em data-start=\"406\" data-end=\"431\">Salwa Ali Abdul-Hussein<\/em>, titled:<br data-start=\"440\" data-end=\"443\" \/><strong data-start=\"443\" data-end=\"643\">&#8220;Molecular Evaluation of Efflux Pump Gene Expression (MexAB-MexR) in Clinical Multidrug-Resistant <em data-start=\"543\" data-end=\"567\">Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/em> Isolates Upon Exposure to Phenylalanine-Arginine \u03b2-Naphthylamide (Pa\u03b2N).&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"645\" data-end=\"1077\">The study aimed to focus on inhibiting efflux pumps using chemical substances known as efflux pump inhibitors (EPIs). Pa\u03b2N was the first inhibitor of the RND pump family and acts as a competitive inhibitor by blocking substrate binding and efflux. The study also evaluated the inhibitory efficiency of Pa\u03b2N and its synergistic effect after antibiotic susceptibility testing, in an attempt to identify the most effective combination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1239\">The study concluded that <em data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1128\">Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/em> was notably present in various clinical samples, particularly in burn infections and urinary tract infections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1549\">The findings showed that <em data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1281\">P. aeruginosa<\/em> exhibited strong resistance to several classes of antibiotics, especially the penicillin class (piperacillin), while it was more sensitive to a limited number of antibiotics, particularly the beta-lactam\/beta-lactamase inhibitor combination (piperacillin-tazobactam).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1551\" data-end=\"1697\">Additionally, most <em data-start=\"1570\" data-end=\"1585\">P. aeruginosa<\/em> isolates demonstrated a high ability to form biofilms, and the majority were positive for efflux pump activity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1699\" data-end=\"2036\">The study recommended the use of a combination of antibiotics and Pa\u03b2N as an efflux pump inhibitor, along with other gene families besides MexAB-oprM.
