{"id":2323,"date":"2025-05-14T17:56:45","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T17:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2323"},"modified":"2025-05-14T17:56:45","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T17:56:45","slug":"genetic-engineering-discusses-the-relationship-between-genotypic-variations-gene-expression-of-tshr-and-foxe1-and-the-incidence-of-hyperthyroidism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2323","title":{"rendered":"Genetic Engineering Discusses the Relationship Between Genotypic Variations, Gene Expression of TSHR and FOXE1, and the Incidence of Hyperthyroidism"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"161\" data-end=\"601\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the doctoral dissertation of student <strong data-start=\"317\" data-end=\"336\">Huda Ali Hassan<\/strong>, titled:<br data-start=\"345\" data-end=\"348\" \/><em data-start=\"348\" data-end=\"487\">\u201cA Study of the Relationship Between Genotypic Polymorphisms and Gene Expression of TSHR and FOXE1 and the Incidence of Hyperthyroidism,\u201d<\/em> under the supervision of <strong data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"556\">Prof. Dr. Rafid Abdul Wahid Al-Moussawi<\/strong>, Head of the Genetic Engineering Department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"1085\">The dissertation aimed to investigate the impact of radioactive iodine treatment on the gene expression of <strong data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"718\">TSHR<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"732\">FOXE1<\/strong> before and after treatment in Iraqi patients with hyperthyroidism. It also sought to determine the association between two specific <strong data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"907\">single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)<\/strong> in the <strong data-start=\"915\" data-end=\"923\">TSHR<\/strong> gene and the incidence of hyperthyroidism, in addition to examining the relationship between two SNPs in the <strong data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1042\">FOXE1<\/strong> gene and the disease among Iraqi patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1087\" data-end=\"1263\">The study showed that <strong data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1118\">FOXE1<\/strong> gene expression was <strong data-start=\"1139\" data-end=\"1184\">significantly higher in the control group<\/strong> compared to both patient groups\u2014before and after radioactive iodine treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1572\">It concluded that <strong data-start=\"1283\" data-end=\"1291\">TSHR<\/strong> gene expression was also higher in the control group, although <strong data-start=\"1355\" data-end=\"1388\">not statistically significant<\/strong> when compared with the patient groups before and after treatment. However, a <strong data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1514\">significant difference in TSH hormone levels<\/strong> was observed between patients before and after treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1574\" data-end=\"1996\">The genetic analysis revealed that for the <strong data-start=\"1617\" data-end=\"1646\">FOXE1 gene SNP rs_1867277<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1667\">AG genotype<\/strong> acted as a <strong data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1700\">protective factor<\/strong>, whereas the <strong data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1729\">GG genotype<\/strong> represented a <strong data-start=\"1744\" data-end=\"1759\">risk factor<\/strong>. For <strong data-start=\"1765\" data-end=\"1793\">FOXE1 gene SNP rs_965513<\/strong>, both <strong data-start=\"1800\" data-end=\"1823\">AG and GG genotypes<\/strong> were considered <strong data-start=\"1840\" data-end=\"1854\">protective<\/strong>. Conversely, for the <strong data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1904\">TSHR gene SNP rs_2075179<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1910\" data-end=\"1933\">TC and CC genotypes<\/strong> were found to be <strong data-start=\"1951\" data-end=\"1967\">risk factors<\/strong> associated with the disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1998\" data-end=\"2339\">The dissertation recommended conducting <strong data-start=\"2038\" data-end=\"2057\">further studies<\/strong> involving other genes linked to hyperthyroidism, as well as increasing the sample size in future research to confirm the statistical and clinical significance of the findings. It also suggested selecting genes that may directly or indirectly respond to thyroid radiation treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2341\" data-end=\"2497\">Moreover, it recommended dividing patients into <strong data-start=\"2389\" data-end=\"2403\">two groups<\/strong> prior to sample collection: one with <strong data-start=\"2441\" data-end=\"2460\">Graves\u2019 disease<\/strong> and the other with <strong data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2496\">toxic goiter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2499\" data-end=\"3031\">Future research could also explore the <strong data-start=\"2538\" data-end=\"2578\">post-genetic (epigenetic) influences<\/strong> on thyroid dysfunction and their correlation with treatment response. The study proposed additional research on <strong data-start=\"2691\" data-end=\"2716\">TSHR antibody testing<\/strong> in Graves\u2019 disease patients undergoing radioactive treatment, both before and after therapy.
