{"id":2340,"date":"2025-05-25T06:16:54","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T06:16:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2340"},"modified":"2025-05-25T06:31:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T06:31:11","slug":"genetic-engineering-discusses-the-molecular-evaluation-of-the-effect-of-phenylalanine-arginine-%ce%b2-naphthylamide-on-the-expression-of-efflux-pump-genes-acrab-tolc-in-multidrug-resistant-clinical","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2340","title":{"rendered":"Genetic Engineering Discusses the Molecular Evaluation of the Effect of Phenylalanine-Arginine \u03b2-Naphthylamide on the Expression of Efflux Pump Genes (AcrAB-TolC) in Multidrug-Resistant Clinical Isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"236\" data-end=\"699\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master&#8217;s thesis of student <em data-start=\"386\" data-end=\"405\">Zina Raad Hussein<\/em>, titled:<br data-start=\"414\" data-end=\"417\" \/><strong data-start=\"417\" data-end=\"618\">\u201cMolecular Evaluation of the Effect of Phenylalanine-Arginine \u03b2-Naphthylamide on the Expression of Efflux Pump Genes (AcrAB-TolC) in Multidrug-Resistant Clinical Isolates of <em data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"616\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. <em data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"698\">Abdul Amir Mohammed Gharib<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"1122\">The study aimed to investigate the inhibition of efflux pumps using chemical compounds known as efflux pump inhibitors (EPIs), with <strong data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"882\">Phenylalanine-Arginine \u03b2-Naphthylamide (Pa\u03b2N)<\/strong> being a leading inhibitor in this class. It is considered the first known inhibitor of the RND (Resistance-Nodulation-Division) efflux pump system and acts as a competitive inhibitor by preventing substrate binding to the efflux mechanism.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1124\" data-end=\"1392\">The study concluded that there is a notable prevalence of <em data-start=\"1182\" data-end=\"1205\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> isolates in various clinical samples, particularly in cases of urinary tract infections and blood samples, with a high rate of <em data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1356\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> infections reported among newborns.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1643\">The study also showed that <em data-start=\"1421\" data-end=\"1444\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> exhibits widespread resistance to many families of antibiotics, especially the penicillin family (such as ampicillin), while it was more sensitive to the amphenicol family (such as chloramphenicol).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1645\" data-end=\"1841\">Additionally, it was found that most isolates were capable of forming biofilms and that all <em data-start=\"1737\" data-end=\"1760\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> isolates demonstrated positive efflux pump activity even at high concentrations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1843\" data-end=\"2087\">The study recommended using a combination of antibiotics and Pa\u03b2N to target other genetic families beyond AcrAB-TolC.
