{"id":2369,"date":"2025-05-25T06:24:19","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T06:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2369"},"modified":"2025-05-25T06:24:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T06:24:19","slug":"under-the-slogan-early-screening-for-a-balanced-life-genetic-engineering-holds-special-seminar-on-thyroid-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2369","title":{"rendered":"Under the Slogan \u201cEarly Screening for a Balanced Life\u201d \u2013 Genetic Engineering Holds Special Seminar on Thyroid Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"122\" data-end=\"535\">In conjunction with the upcoming <em data-start=\"155\" data-end=\"174\">World Thyroid Day<\/em> and under the direct patronage of the Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. <em data-start=\"345\" data-end=\"367\">Salwa Jabir Al-Awadi<\/em>, and as part of the activities of the Institute\u2019s Women Empowerment Unit, a scientific seminar titled <em data-start=\"470\" data-end=\"525\">\u201cThyroid Health: Early Screening for a Balanced Life\u201d<\/em> was held.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"537\" data-end=\"866\">The seminar session was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. <em data-start=\"596\" data-end=\"616\">Ashwaq Basim Jasim<\/em>, with <em data-start=\"623\" data-end=\"660\">Dr. Hadeel Mohammed Saeed Al-Hilali<\/em>, a specialist in oncology and endocrine surgery at the Medical City Complex \/ Baghdad Teaching Hospital, serving as a guest lecturer. Assistant Lecturer <em data-start=\"814\" data-end=\"830\">Raja Abdul Ali<\/em> served as the seminar\u2019s rapporteur.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"1250\">The seminar aimed to explain the importance of regular thyroid function screening and its role in the early detection of thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, which can affect weight, energy levels, mood, and other aspects of health. The session also sought to educate attendees on recognizing early symptoms and understanding when to seek medical evaluation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1302\"><strong data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1302\">Key recommendations from the seminar included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"2360\">\n<li data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"1469\">\n<p data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1469\"><strong data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1359\">The importance of regular thyroid hormone testing<\/strong> <em data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1375\">(TSH, T3, T4)<\/em>, especially for women, the elderly, and individuals with a family history of thyroid disease.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1470\" data-end=\"1661\">\n<p data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1661\"><strong data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1514\">Awareness of thyroid disorder symptoms<\/strong>, emphasizing the need to recognize signs of dysfunction such as chronic fatigue, unexplained weight gain or loss, hair thinning, and mood changes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1857\">\n<p data-start=\"1664\" data-end=\"1857\"><strong data-start=\"1664\" data-end=\"1705\">The necessity of medical consultation<\/strong> upon the appearance of symptoms, urging individuals not to ignore potential thyroid-related signs and to consult a doctor promptly for necessary tests.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"1993\">\n<p data-start=\"1860\" data-end=\"1993\"><strong data-start=\"1860\" data-end=\"1891\">Maintaining a balanced diet<\/strong> to support thyroid health, with a recommendation to consume foods rich in iodine, selenium, and zinc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2170\">\n<p data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2170\"><strong data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2048\">Attention to mental health and stress management<\/strong>, since psychological stress can impact thyroid function.
