{"id":2419,"date":"2025-07-30T16:24:06","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T16:24:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2419"},"modified":"2025-08-04T23:00:34","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T23:00:34","slug":"the-genetic-engineering-institute-discusses-the-pharmacogenomic-association-of-methylene-tetrahydrofolate-reductase-mthfr-gene-expression-with-response-to-methotrexate-in-rheumatoid-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2419","title":{"rendered":"The Genetic Engineering Institute discusses the pharmacogenomic association of methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene expression with response to methotrexate in rheumatoid patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Higher Studies \/ University of Baghdad discussed the master&#8217;s thesis of student &#8220;Mazin Kamel Marjoon&#8221; titled: &#8220;Pharmacogenomic Association of Methylene Tetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene Expression with Response to Methotrexate in Rheumatoid Patients in a Sample of Iraqi Patients&#8221; under the supervision of Professor Dr. Rafid Abdul Wahid Al-Moussawi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study aimed to evaluate the expression of the MTHFR gene, in addition to measuring TNF-\u03b1 and folic acid levels, with the aim of supporting the trend of conducting genetic tests before starting methotrexate treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">This study was conducted in light of the increasing clinical importance of pharmacogenomics and its role in improving the effectiveness and safety of treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study showed that statistical analyses using ANOVA and Pearson&#8217;s correlation test revealed that MTHFR gene expression was significantly lower in the biological treatment group compared to the methotrexate-responsive group and the control group (p &lt; 0.05), and that TNF-\u03b1 levels were significantly higher in the biological treatment group, indicating a persistent inflammatory response in non-responsive patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study concluded that MTHFR gene expression, TNF-\u03b1 levels, and folic acid may play an important role in predicting the therapeutic response to methotrexate, highlighting the importance of pharmacogenomic testing before starting treatment to improve clinical outcomes and reduce ineffective treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study recommended that changes in these biomarkers are closely related to the inflammatory state and the variability in treatment outcomes among patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2420&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; onclick=&#8221;img_link_large&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2422&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; onclick=&#8221;img_link_large&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;] The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Higher Studies \/ University of Baghdad discussed the master&#8217;s thesis &#8230; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":37,"featured_media":2423,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[14,17,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2419","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-archives","category-last-news","category-a-a"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.8 -
