{"id":2441,"date":"2025-08-13T14:42:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T14:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2441"},"modified":"2025-08-13T14:42:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T14:42:10","slug":"genetic-engineering-discusses-the-relationship-between-antibiotic-resistance-and-gene-expression-of-the-efflux-pump-adeabc-in-acinetobacter-baumannii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2441","title":{"rendered":"Genetic Engineering Discusses the Relationship Between Antibiotic Resistance and Gene Expression of the Efflux Pump AdeABC in Acinetobacter baumannii"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"196\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master\u2019s thesis of the student Hanan Dawood Salman Salem, entitled:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"198\" data-end=\"410\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cThe Relationship Between Antibiotic Resistance and Gene Expression of the Efflux Pump AdeABC in <em data-start=\"297\" data-end=\"322\">Acinetobacter baumannii<\/em> Isolated from Burn Patients\u201d,<\/span><br data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"357\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">supervised by Professor Wathiq Abbas Al-Draghi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"412\" data-end=\"656\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study aimed to isolate, identify, and classify <em data-start=\"463\" data-end=\"477\">A. baumannii<\/em> strains from burn infections, assess their antibiotic resistance profiles, and investigate the role of efflux pump genes (<em data-start=\"600\" data-end=\"606\">oprD<\/em>, <em data-start=\"608\" data-end=\"614\">AdeR<\/em>, <em data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"622\">AdeS<\/em>) in multidrug resistance (MDR).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"739\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study found that 10% of the isolates were identified as <em data-start=\"722\" data-end=\"736\">A. baumannii<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"1101\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Antibiotic susceptibility testing showed high resistance to carbapenems, aminoglycosides, and fluoroquinolones. Real-time PCR revealed a significant increase in the expression of <em data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"926\">AdeR<\/em> and <em data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"937\">AdeS<\/em> genes in multidrug-resistant strains, highlighting their crucial role in resistance mechanisms. Colistin and tigecycline remained the most effective antibiotics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1416\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study recommended the urgent need for effective infection control and the prudent use of antibiotics to combat the spread of multidrug-resistant <em data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1266\">A. baumannii<\/em>.
