{"id":2484,"date":"2025-08-30T00:49:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T00:49:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2484"},"modified":"2025-08-30T00:49:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T00:49:20","slug":"genetic-engineering-discusses-the-role-of-class-a-and-class-b-carbapenemase-genes-in-antibiotic-resistance-of-klebsiella-pneumoniae-isolated-from-urinary-tract-infections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2484","title":{"rendered":"Genetic engineering discusses the role of class A and class B carbapenemase genes in antibiotic resistance of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from urinary tract infections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"384\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies \/ University of Baghdad discussed the master\u2019s thesis of the student Ahmed Hassan Najm, entitled:<\/span><br data-start=\"181\" data-end=\"184\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cThe Role of Class A and Class B Carbapenemase Genes in Antibiotic Resistance of <em data-start=\"267\" data-end=\"290\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections\u201d, supervised by Dr. Wasan Abdul-Razzaq Gharbi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"386\" data-end=\"669\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study aimed to investigate <em data-start=\"417\" data-end=\"440\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> as the main causative agent of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). It is traditionally regarded as an opportunistic pathogen, primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals, especially in cases of urinary tract infections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"671\" data-end=\"1169\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The results of the study showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of black mulberry extract was 16 mg\/ml for isolates (K1, K3, K4, K5, K6, and K7), 32 mg\/ml for isolates (K2, K8, K9), and 64 mg\/ml for K10 (Table 2 and Figure 2). In contrast, blueberry extract exhibited excellent inhibitory effects at 16 mg\/ml for isolates (K1, K3, K4, K5, and K6), while the MICs for isolates (K2, K8, K9, and K10) were 32 mg\/ml, 32 mg\/ml, 32 mg\/ml, and 64 mg\/ml, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1488\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study also revealed the detection of the 16S rRNA gene in <em data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1260\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for each extracted DNA sample, with specific primers designed to detect the presence of the <em data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1406\">K. pneumoniae<\/em> 16S rRNA gene (95 bp), which is commonly used for bacterial identification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1810\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study recommended that cranberry extract possesses significant antibacterial activity against <em data-start=\"1590\" data-end=\"1613\">Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/em> isolates compared to meropenem.
