{"id":2521,"date":"2025-09-02T20:55:42","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T20:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2521"},"modified":"2025-09-02T20:57:42","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T20:57:42","slug":"%d9%85%d8%b9%d9%87%d8%af-%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%87%d9%86%d8%af%d8%b3%d8%a9-%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%88%d8%b1%d8%a7%d8%ab%d9%8a%d8%a9-%d9%8a%d9%86%d8%a7%d9%82%d8%b4-%d8%aa%d8%a3%d8%ab%d9%8a%d8%b1-%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%aa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2521","title":{"rendered":"The Institute of Genetic Engineering Discusses the Effect of Gene Expression of miR-122-5p and miR-222-5p on Statin Drug Response in Iraqi Patients with Cardiovascular Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"450\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies \/ University of Baghdad discussed the master\u2019s thesis of the student <em data-start=\"221\" data-end=\"238\">Zainab Ali Jabr<\/em>, entitled: \u201cStudy of the Effect of Gene Expression of miR-122-5p and miR-222-5p on Statin Drug Response in Iraqi Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases\u201d, supervised by Prof. Dr. Rafid Abdulwahid Al-Mousawi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"452\" data-end=\"681\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study aimed to examine the expression of miR-122-5p and miR-222-5p, and to investigate the relationship between their expression levels and the response to statins in patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"683\" data-end=\"872\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The results showed that age and family history had significant effects (P = 0.028 and P = 0.011, respectively), while gender and smoking had no significant impact (P = 0.42 and P = 0.41).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"874\" data-end=\"1278\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study recommended that the non-responder group of cardiovascular patients may exhibit a different response to statins due to the overexpression of miR-122-5p, which may affect cholesterol levels. Elevated cholesterol was also associated with increased expression of miR-222-5p in the non-responder group.
