{"id":2568,"date":"2025-09-17T22:09:44","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T22:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2568"},"modified":"2025-09-17T22:09:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T22:09:44","slug":"for-the-first-time-in-iraq-using-electrophoresis-technology-genetic-engineering-discusses-the-association-of-genetic-variations-with-the-risk-of-acute-myeloid-leukemia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=2568","title":{"rendered":"For the first time in Iraq, using electrophoresis technology\u2026 Genetic Engineering discusses the association of genetic variations with the risk of acute myeloid leukemia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"382\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the PhD dissertation of student <em data-start=\"151\" data-end=\"179\">Shurooq Abdul Jabbar Lafta<\/em>, entitled:<\/span><br data-start=\"190\" data-end=\"193\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cThe Association of Genetic Variations in FLT3 and NPM1 Genes with the Risk of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in a Sample of Iraqi Patients\u201d, supervised by Prof. <em data-start=\"351\" data-end=\"379\">Ismail Abdul Redha Al-Lami<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"495\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">This study is considered the first in Iraq to use capillary electrophoresis to detect FLT3-ITD mutations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"763\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The primary aim of the research was to investigate the prevalence of FLT3-ITD, FLT3-TKD, and NPM1 mutations among local patients with acute myeloid leukemia, and to study their association with hematological parameters, kidney function, and metabolic activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"765\" data-end=\"1045\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The results showed that females had higher rates of type A and D mutations, while males were more likely to carry the type B mutation. Regarding blood components, no statistically significant differences were observed between the NPM1 mutation carriers and the non-carriers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1047\" data-end=\"1244\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study further revealed that combined mutations were detected in both FLT3-ITD and NPM1 in 12% of patients, while combined mutations in FLT3-TKD and NPM1 were found in 6% of cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1436\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The dissertation recommended the importance of conducting broader, multi-center studies and the routine use of capillary electrophoresis in the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2570&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; onclick=&#8221;img_link_large&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the PhD dissertation &#8230; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":37,"featured_media":2571,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[14,17,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-archives","category-last-news","category-a-a"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.8 -
