{"id":3135,"date":"2026-06-10T07:29:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T07:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=3135"},"modified":"2026-06-14T07:35:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T07:35:23","slug":"the-institute-of-genetic-engineering-and-biotechnology-for-postgraduate-studies-discusses-the-association-of-stat4-rs7574865-and-rs7582694-polymorphisms-foxp3-and-stat4-gene-expression-and-serum-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ige.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=3135","title":{"rendered":"The Institute of Genetic Engineering Discusses the Association of STAT4 (rs7574865 and rs7582694) Polymorphisms, FOXP3 and STAT4 Gene Expression, and Serum Immunological Markers with the Severity of Lupus Nephritis"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Institute of Genetic Engineering discussed the Ph.D. dissertation of student <strong>Noor Hassan Kadhim<\/strong>, entitled:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>\u201cAssociation of STAT4 (rs7574865 and rs7582694) Polymorphisms, FOXP3 and STAT4 Gene Expression, and Serum Immunological Markers with the Severity of Lupus Nephritis.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The dissertation was supervised by <strong>Professor Dr. Basma Qasim Hassan<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study aimed to evaluate the impact of <strong>STAT4<\/strong> gene polymorphisms, assess the gene expression levels of <strong>STAT4<\/strong> and <strong>FOXP3<\/strong>, and investigate the relationship between serum <strong>IL-6<\/strong> and <strong>IL-23<\/strong> levels and the pathogenesis of <strong>lupus nephritis (LN)<\/strong> in Iraqi patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The results demonstrated a significant decrease in <strong>STAT4<\/strong> gene expression among patients (0.692) compared with the control group (1.40; <em>p<\/em> = 0.011). In contrast, <strong>FOXP3<\/strong> gene expression was significantly increased in patients (2.95) compared with controls (1.697). The study also found significantly elevated serum levels of <strong>IL-6<\/strong> and <strong>IL-23<\/strong> in patients relative to healthy individuals, supporting their potential use as biomarkers for assessing disease severity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The study recommended investigating additional exons of the <strong>STAT4<\/strong> gene to identify further mutations that could enhance the diagnostic value of molecular assays used in the evaluation of lupus nephritis.
