The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad commemorated World Antibiotic Week, by holding a special exhibition on antibiotics and the scientific research presented in this important scientific field, by the committee concerned with managing the event, which is headed by the Dean of the Institute, Assistant Professor. Dr. Saif Daoud Al-Ahmar, the head of the Biotechnology Branch, Qais Qasim Ghaimah, and the teachers at the institute are the assistant professor, Dr. Abdul Amir Muhammad Ghareeb, the assistant professor, Dr. Zainab Hikmat Abboud, the teacher, Dr. Wasan Abdul Razzaq Gharbi, the teacher, Dr. Zahraa Ahmed Shaker, and the teacher, Dr. Ali Muhammad Reda.
The event aimed to raise awareness about antibiotics, increase awareness of global antibiotic resistance, and encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policy makers to avoid the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.
The Assistant Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Ismail Hussein Aziz, opened the exhibition ceremony, which was held in the doctoral hall at the Institute, with the participation of professors, affiliates and students of the Institute.
This occasion coincides with the change in climate, which affects antimicrobial resistance, because rising temperatures affect the spread of microbes in the environment.
Antimicrobial resistance poses a global threat to human, animal, plant and environmental health. The response to antimicrobial resistance needs a “One Health” and “One Water” approach, which recognizes that human, environmental and animal health are inextricably linked.
