The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies is a specialized academic institution and one of the prominent entities of the University of Baghdad. It is distinguished by a highly qualified academic staff with diverse scientific backgrounds and aims to promote and provide scientific knowledge through research and education, as well as to develop solutions in the fields of health, agriculture, and clean energy, with the goal of improving society and supplying it with qualified human resources. The Institute also seeks to strengthen openness and cooperation with national institutions to achieve partnership and sustainable development.
» To implement and develop theoretical and practical curricula in the sciences of genetic engineering and biotechnology, enhance and modernize academic programs, and achieve educational quality comparable to that of leading international universities.
» To prepare academic programs with forward-looking scientific visions that align with the continuously evolving needs of the labor market, and to supply state ministries with competent scientific personnel in genetic engineering and biotechnology specialties, including medical, health, industrial, and agricultural technologies. This also includes supporting the private sector, providing scientific and consultancy services, and equipping state institutions and the private sector with graduates (Higher Diploma, Master’s, and PhD) who possess strong knowledge, scientific skills, and sound methodological expertise, in line with societal development and labor market requirements.
» To develop plans aimed at enhancing the capabilities of academic staff through participation in training courses and international scientific conferences, encouraging faculty members and students to engage in high-quality research, and opening opportunities for international students to apply for postgraduate studies at the Institute.
» To develop research laboratories by equipping them with modern instruments and laboratory materials, in addition to advancing administrative systems, improving institutional performance efficiency, transitioning toward e-governance, and adopting quality assurance and laboratory accreditation systems.
» To maximize the Institute’s financial resources in order to complement government funding.
» To develop products of industrial and medical importance, as well as applications in diagnosis and quality control, using genetic engineering and biotechnology in medical, industrial, and agricultural fields.
» To encourage volunteer work and community service, and to organize cultural events, seminars, and public lectures that highlight social and cultural issues.
