As part of the National Afforestation Initiative launched by the honorable Prime Minister, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Salwa Jabir Al-Awadi, Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the Women’s Affairs Unit launched a major afforestation campaign within the institute’s campus to enhance green cover and revive the spirit of beauty across the nation.

The event was attended by Dr. Wathiq Abbas Al-Daraji, Assistant Dean for Scientific and Administrative Affairs; the heads of scientific departments, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim and Dr. Rafid Abdulwahid; Dr. Ashwaq Basim, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit; along with several administrative and scientific staff members, faculty, and postgraduate students — in a scene that reflected a strong sense of cooperation and environmental belonging.

This campaign reaffirms the institute’s role in supporting national initiatives and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 15 (Life on Land), by promoting the expansion of green spaces and strengthening vegetation cover. Coinciding with the celebrations of the Iraqi National Day, it stands as a message of loyalty, belonging, and hope for a greener and more sustainable future for our beloved Iraq.
