Under the patronage of the Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Salwa Jaber Al-Awadi, the institute organized the International Earth Day Festival in cooperation with the Department of Earth Sciences, College of Science, with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members. This initiative aimed to promote environmental culture and enhance scientific awareness among students and the community.
The festival session was chaired by the Head of the Genetic Engineering Branch, Professor Dr. Rafid Abdul Wahid Al-Moussawi. Participants from the Department of Earth Sciences included Lecturer Dr. Iman Ahmed Al-Ali, Assistant Professor Dr. Anwar Kazem Mousa, Lecturer Dr. Hind Fadhil Abdullah, and Lecturer Dr. Safaa Adeeb Saleh.
The festival included scientific sessions focused on introducing the components of the Earth and its internal structure, as well as explaining the theory of Earth’s formation and its evolution over time. Participants recommended the necessity of preserving natural resources, particularly in Iraq, strengthening the role of scientific research in addressing environmental challenges, and emphasizing the importance of knowledge integration and academic collaboration across various scientific disciplines.
This activity contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to Quality Education, Climate Action, and Life on Land, in addition to strengthening scientific partnerships, thereby supporting the development of sustainable environmental awareness and community service.
