The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness lecture entitled “The Role of Women in Reducing the Use of Chemical Cleaning Products through Environmentally Friendly Alternatives.” The lecture was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Ghassan Mohammed Ahmed and Lecturer Dr. Yasser Hussam Sabah.

The lecture aimed to enhance women’s awareness of their pivotal role in reducing the use of chemical cleaning products in the home and to encourage the adoption of natural and environmentally friendly alternatives that help protect the health of family members.

The speakers discussed the harmful effects of chemical cleaning products on the eyes, skin, and respiratory system, with particular emphasis on spray cleaners that may trigger asthma symptoms. They also highlighted the environmental impact of non-biodegradable substances that accumulate in water and soil.

The lecture concluded with recommendations to gradually introduce one or two eco-friendly alternatives into daily cleaning routines, promote awareness among family members and friends to broaden the positive impact, and carefully review product ingredients before purchasing cleaning products.
