The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a training course entitled “Enhancing Statistical Literacy for Interpreting Research Articles,” delivered by Professor Dr. Majid Shaya’ Hamdallah and Lecturer Dr. Raghda Raissan. The course was attended by a number of faculty members and students of the institute, as well as external researchers.

The course aimed to strengthen the critical reading of research papers, enhance understanding of statistical methodologies, evaluate study quality, and apply statistical thinking to real research questions. It also introduced participants to statistical concepts and analyses related to gene expression studies, in addition to selecting appropriate statistical tests based on data distribution.

The course recommended increasing attention to statistical literacy as a fundamental pillar in research, emphasizing that no scientific study or thesis is complete without the proper application of systematic statistical analysis.

This course contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
