The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled “The Genetic Basis of Nutritional Behavior” in the presence of several professors, affiliates and students of the Institute. The symposium was delivered by the Rapporteur of the Genetic Engineering Branch, Assistant Professor Dr Sana Jassim Kadhim, while the lecturer was Dr. Zahraa Ahmed Shaker, rapporteur of the symposium.
The symposium aimed to conduct a review on the genetic influences of eating behaviour and how they relate to obesity, as well as to shed light on the genetics of taste, meal size, and meal selection.
The symposium discussed the development of nutritional methods to bring about effective changes in modifiable behaviours and knowledge of the biological mechanisms that guide food behaviour that can provide effective targets for obesity and its related disorders.
The symposium recommended a study of food behaviour that attempts to identify food patterns and food preferences and explain why there is an attraction towards specific behaviours and food choices.
