The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad discussed the thesis of master’s student “Nour Sobhi Ali” entitled: “Study of the pharmacogenetic effects of gene expression of the thiopurine methyltransferase gene and bacterial infections on the response to the drug Amuran in Iraqi patients with chronic ulcerative colitis.” Discussion hall at the institute.
The study aimed to study the pharmacogenetic effects of thiopurine methyltransferase gene expression and bacterial infections on the response to the drug Amuran in Iraqi patients with chronic ulcerative colitis.
During the study, 100 samples (70 patients with colon ulceration and 30 healthy controls) were collected from age groups ranging from 13-50 years from Baghdad hospitals (Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Digestive System Unit, Imam Al-Kazemin Medical City, Digestive System Unit, and the Digestive System and Liver Diseases Hospital in Medical City for the period from December 2022 to April 2023, and tests were conducted on all types of samples taken from patients (whole blood serum stool.
The study revealed that there is no significant difference between patients and healthy people (0.92) – value for males and 0.91 for females). The results of the study of the distribution of samples according to the medical history group showed that there is no difference between healthy people and patients (0.81 – value).
The results of the distribution of study samples according to the level of TNF in the serum of the study cases (patients and healthy people) showed that there was a significant difference between the patients and the healthy group (P>0.01).
The study recommended distributing the samples according to the level of 8-1 in the serum of the patient group, indicating that there was a significant difference between the patients.
