The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar titled “Conditions and Regulations for Academic Promotions.” The seminar was conducted by the Head of the Promotions Unit at the Institute, Prof. Dr. Basma Qasim Hassan, in collaboration with the Scientific Promotions Unit at Al-Nahrain University. The event hosted the Head of the Unit, Prof. Dr. Asmaa Ali Hussein, as well as Assistant Professor Dr. Ruqayya Mohammed Ibrahim.
The seminar was attended by the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Salwa Jaber Al-Awadi, along with a number of faculty members and institute staff.
The aim of the seminar was to provide a comprehensive presentation on the mechanism of processing academic promotion applications in accordance with an organized structure issued by the Research and Development Department of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It also addressed the set of requirements needed to complete a promotion application for all academic ranks.
The seminar explained how points for academic promotions are calculated, as well as the conditions for publishing in accredited scientific journals, whether those journals are within Iraq or abroad.
The seminar also presented important dates and circulars regarding the credibility of scientific journals.
It concluded with a discussion between the presenters and the audience, touching on various issues related to academic promotions.
On the sidelines of the seminar, the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Salwa Jaber Al-Awadi, welcomed the guest speakers and expressed her gratitude to the Presidency of Al-Nahrain University for its generous cooperation with the Institute—particularly in the area of academic promotions, which is of great importance to the academic community in general, and to the faculty of the Institute in particular. The participants also exchanged views and ideas aimed at improving the operations of academic promotions units and eliminating obstacles that university faculty members may face in this regard.
In conclusion, Dr. Al-Awadi honored the guest speakers and presented them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their significant cooperation with the Institute’s Promotions Unit.
She also praised the great efforts exerted by the Promotions Unit at the Institute, represented by its head, Prof. Dr. Basma Qasim Hassan, and the unit’s team members, Assistant Lecturer Rusul Medhat and Assistant Lecturer Sarah Mazen.
