Under the patronage of the Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Salwa Jaber Al-Awadi, a scientific seminar titled: “Cervical Cancer: Prevention Begins with Early Screening” was held. The seminar was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Ashwaq Basim Jassim, with Ms. Rajaa Abdul Ali serving as the coordinator, and featured a lecture delivered by endocrinology and oncology specialist Dr. Samar Muslim Al-Mahdi.

The seminar was attended by a number of female faculty members and staff from the institute.

This event was part of the activities organized by the Women’s Affairs Committee at the institute.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about cervical cancer and the importance of early screening for prevention. It focused on highlighting risk factors, methods of early detection, and prevention strategies, with the broader goal of promoting public health and reducing incidence and mortality rates.

The seminar recommended regular screening using the Pap smear test for married women, HPV testing as advised by a physician, and early vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) for girls and boys to prevent infection by the virus that causes cervical cancer.

It also emphasized the importance of spreading health awareness about the disease, its symptoms, transmission methods, and the value of early detection, in addition to reinforcing the role of primary healthcare in education and routine screening.
