The Council of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad, headed by the Dean of the Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Daoud Al-Ahmar, and his assistant for administrative and scientific affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ismail Hussein Aziz, as well as members of the Council, participated in the work of the General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities in its fifty-sixth session which the University of Baghdad was honored to host and under the patronage of the respected President of the University, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ansaf.
The conference witnessed the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, a large number of Arab and Iraqi parliamentary and academic figures, a number of presidents of Iraqi and Arab universities, and representatives of international organizations and unions.
His Excellency Minister Al-Aboudi delivered his speech on this occasion, in which he called for the establishment and announcement of the Arab Higher Education Zone project under the supervision of the Association of Arab Universities.
Al-Aboudi emphasized that the conference of the Association of Arab Universities represents a valuable opportunity to fuse ideas and exchange opinions on ways to develop higher education in the Arab region, calling for the establishment and declaration of an Arab higher education zone.
He pointed out that this proposed initiative and this project includes an important road map to undermine challenges and expand the circle of joint action similar to the experience of establishing the European Higher Education Area, and to support, enhance and consolidate reform climates in institutions and provide solutions to many of the difficulties facing Arab universities and educational institutions.
He added that real, continuous and effective interaction between Arab universities would reduce the gap between Arab educational spaces and open the way for productive interaction with solid educational environments in many global capitals.
In turn, the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ansaf, delivered his speech on this occasion, expressing his welcome to the Arab university delegations in Baghdad, stressing the happiness of the Iraqi university and academic circles with this session headed by Iraq.
He emphasized that the meeting of Arab universities represents an important opportunity to enhance academic cooperation and contributes to providing an environment for the fusion of ideas responsible for developing the educational field in Arab academic institutions.
In the context of the opening activities of the conference, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research honored the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, the Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils, Dr. Abdelmajid Ben Amara, the President of the University of Sousse, Dr. Lotfi Belkacem, and the President of Al-Mustanir University, Dr. Al-Hadi Belhaj Saleh, and expressed his confidence in the support of The location of Arab universities in terms of academic, scientific and research contributions.
On this occasion, the Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Daoud Al-Ahmar, presented, in his name and on behalf of the members of the Institute’s Council, its professors, and its affiliates, the best congratulations to the Iraqi academic family in general, and to the presidency and formations of our mother university, “University of Baghdad”.
