The Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Salwa Jabir Al-Awadi, chaired the scientific committee for the defense of a Master’s thesis by the student Hawraa Mowafaq Abdullah from the Department of Animal Production, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences. The thesis was entitled: “Genetic Polymorphisms of the Ovocalyxin-32 Gene and Their Effect on Productive Performance and Some Egg Quality Traits in Iraqi Chickens,” and was supervised by Assist. Prof. Dr. Bassam Ghazi Mousa.
The study aimed to identify the different genetic polymorphisms of this gene, determine allele frequency and genotype percentages in Iraqi chickens, and investigate their effects on productive performance and some quality traits of local Iraqi chicken eggs, as an attempt to utilize these findings in improving Iraqi chicken breeds.
The researcher recommended the need for further studies to fully understand the gene’s influence on egg production and quality traits, as well as to explore its effects on other unstudied traits and on disease resistance.
For her part, Prof. Dr. Al-Awadi expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the esteemed members of the scientific committee and conveyed her best wishes to the researcher for continued success in her academic journey.
