Prof. Dr. Essam Fadel Alwan, faculty member at the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad, participated in the Second International Conference and Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions held in Nineveh Province at Al-Furqan University, organized by the Light Harvest Organization for Education Development. This marked his 40th participation in conferences and exhibitions of patents.

Dr. Essam’s respected participation included presenting and showcasing his patent entitled:
“Production of Antibodies (IgY) from Poultry Egg Yolk Using Purified Glucosyltransferase Enzyme from the Local Isolate Streptococcus mutans (Serotype C) Derived from Dental Calculus.”

The patent also involved producing antibodies in bird egg yolk as a cheap and readily available source, which could serve as an alternative to conventional methods of producing vaccines from the blood of mammals. This approach enhances the potential for protective immunity against Streptococcus mutans serotype C, the bacterium responsible for dental caries, by stimulating antibody production using immunized bird eggs.

The patent was awarded the Gold Medal as well as the Best Patent Award.
