Under the patronage of the Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Salwa Jaber Al-Awadi, a scientific seminar entitled “A Journey into the Chemistry of the Body” was held.

The seminar lecture was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Yasser Hossam and Lecturer Dr. Ghazwan Talal. The scientific committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Mohsen Muslim Shami, with Assistant Lecturer Fatima Hussein Abbas serving as rapporteur.

The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of essential elements in supporting vital processes, in the presence of a number of researchers and students. It focused on explaining the chemical mechanisms that regulate biological processes within the human body, as well as emphasizing the role of essential and trace elements in maintaining physiological balance, preventing diseases, and strengthening the integration of knowledge between genetic engineering and clinical biochemistry.

The seminar recommended intensifying periodic testing of trace elements (such as zinc and magnesium) to prevent enzymatic dysfunction, and promoting nutritional awareness about the importance of maintaining pH balance through a healthy lifestyle.

It also recommended supporting joint research between the Institute of Genetic Engineering and medical centers to study the genetic causes of chemical imbalances.

The seminar contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), as well as Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the design of less toxic chemical materials.
